Hot off the heels of the success of Sihle Hlophe’s award-winning short film As I Am, she has
teamed up with actress and producer Dineo Lusenga, to produce an independently funded
short film, Nomfundo. Both Wits graduates in Film and Television Studies, Lusenga and
Hlophe already have a string of entertainment and film credits to their names.
Lusenga is no stranger to the radio and television scene. She worked at YFM as a
producer, before moving on to 5FM where she worked as a presenter for five years.
Having majored in drama and performance at Wits University and the New York Film
Academy in Los Angeles, Lusenga has had numerous acting roles on hit shows such as
Intersexions, Mutual Friends and others.
Hlophe, a writer and director, has been working in the film and television industry for 8
years, and has written for several local television programmes. In 2013, she directed a 14
minute SiSwati film As I am; it has been screened at respectable international film festivals
such as the Fribourg International Film Festival (Switzerland), the Pan African Film Festival
(USA) and the Zanzibar International Film Festival (Tanzania).

Frustrated with red tape, lack of resources and rejection, the two co-producers have
decided against applying for financing from traditional funding bodies. Instead they have
resolved to self-financing and raising the completion funds by using an online
crowdfunding platform called Thundafund.
The team is in the second phase of their crowdfunding campaign and they need your help
in order to finish Nomfundo. Principle photography has already taken place so all the
funds raised will go towards post-production. The producers concluded by saying, “We
hope to use Nomfundo the short film as a calling card in order to get funding for a featurelength
version of Nomfundo”.
You can visit their crowdfunding campaign page at www.thundafund.com/nomfundo. For
every amount you contribute, there is an exciting reward. Some of the rewards include
film premiere tickets, a private screening of the film and having your name featured on
the film credits. You can also follow the journey of Nomfundo on social media:
