The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and The Association for Transformation in Film and Television (ATFT) are inviting you to an export market introduction and readiness workshop on Toronto International film Festival in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban during the Durban International Film Festival. As part of our mandate to up skill our members in financing, distribution, sales and co-production, ATFT will host three workshops in three cities in preparation for Toronto International Film Festival taking place between the 10th and 20th September 2015 in Toronto, Canada. The workshops are open to any interested filmmakers who are looking to find out more about this market , but are mandatory for delegates attending this years Toronto International film Festival with the South African Indies/DTI delegation. Any delegate who is going to Toronto International film Festival this year that does not attend the workshop will be disqualified from applying for any further markets.
The workshops will be split into two parts and the days programme will be as follows:
09h00-13h00 : The morning session is an introduction to ATFT and how our delegations work, as well as the DTI EMIA scheme used to finance the delegations to attend these markets and how to apply through ATFT or as individual companies through the Individual Exhibitor scheme and be part of the South African Indies delegation to this event. That will be followed by an introduction to Toronto International film Festival and is for anyone who has never attended the festival before. The facilitator will look general orientation at the festival and the background and mandate of this festival, as well as how to pitch and package your project for Toronto International film Festival and the North American market in general. Special focus will be given to genre films and their market in North America and the rest of the world.
13h00-14h00 : Lunch
14h00-16h00 : The afternoon session is for delegates only and will be a one on one meeting with the facilitator, renowned sales agent and executive producer Todd Brown from XYZ Films, discussing your projects and how to go about selling or financing them at this festival. Attendees can ask the facilitator for advice, pitch their project and get feedback.
The Toronto International film Festival 2015 workshops will be facilitated by Todd Brown, Head of Acquisitions for XYZ Films in Toronto. Todd Brown is the founder and editor of international film website TwitchFilm.com and the director of international programming for Fantastic Fest where he makes good use of his moderate obsessive tendencies to bring strange things to audiences around the world.
